Slopestyle is so rad! Already waiting for next years…
A week of fives. First Marcelo Gutierrez does the Garbanzo five-peat, then Jill Kintner with the pump track five-peat followed by the dual slalom. Today, we had Brandon Semenuk take his fifth Red Bull Joyride victory. Winning the most prestigious slopestlye even not twice, but five times is quite the achievement.
Brandon was the first rider down as he hadn’t been to any other events this year, stomping out an 89.8 straight off the bat. Every other rider followed trying to get a 90 but with half of the riders crashing out in the first 4 jumps, it didn’t seem possible to crack. Rogatkin had his shot but crashed, Rheeder crashed twice and never made a solid score.
It came down to the second last run, Emil Johansson put down a scorcher to the crowds delight, everyone thought he was going to knock Brandon out, instead the judges scored him three points shy in 86.8. That left Semenuk with nothing but another victory lap to celebrate. Till next year Whistler!
