Bosch’s latest update unlocked

Bosch launches free firmware update for existing motors unleashing more torque, greater assistance and clever new features!

It’s called the ‘Performance Update 2.0’ and it is free to install over-the-air using the eBike Flow app, including the option to unlock higher performance figures. [R]evolution Mag scored early access to the Performance Update 2.0 to trail the new features firsthand and right away out on the trail with gains were very noticeable! Lets take a closer look at what each of the new key features of the update will enable.

Higher maximum torque and support

For the Bosch Performance Line CX and Bosch Performance Line CX-R, torque and support can now be increased from 100Nm and 400% up to 120Nm and 600%, depending on manufacturer approval. These extra reserves aren’t switched on by default. Out on the trail, the jump to 120Nm feels less aggressive than the number suggests, and that seems deliberate. Bosch has made the extra torque very demand-driven. In normal riding the motor stays calm and controlled, only delivering that extra shove when it’s genuinely needed. You notice it most at very low cadences, right on the edge of a stall, when you’re grinding up steep, technical climbs. The increase in support is much more obvious. The bike gets up to the 25km/h limit quicker and gives stronger assistance on climbs.

Adjustable Extended Boost

Extended Boost isn’t new, but Performance Update 2.0 gives riders more control. From 4 May, overrun duration can be adjusted in several steps for each riding mode through the eBike Flow app. Bosch says Extended Boost can carry the bike forward for up to two metres while staying within legal e-bike limits. On technical climbs that can make a real difference, especially when steps, roots or rock ledges don’t leave room for a full pedal stroke. Depending on riding mode, app settings and pedal input, the overrun can feel shorter, smoother or more dynamic.

Drivetrain Tensioner

The new Drivetrain Tensioner refines the way the motor, freehub and rear wheel work together. By tightening up motor control, Bosch reduces drivetrain slack in eMTB+ and Race modes.

Bosch says the main aim is to protect the freehub, reduce wear and keep long-term maintenance costs down. The system keeps a slight preload on the drivetrain so the top run of the chain stays under tension. The upside on the trail is a more direct feel, with less delay between motor engagement and rear wheel response.

That’s particularly useful in situations where a full pedal stroke isn’t possible — climbing steps, threading through tight switchbacks or picking your way across rough terrain.

Trick Check

Bosch has also added a bit of fun to the update with something they call ‘Trick Check’. The bike now automatically detects jumps, wheelies, manuals and stoppies, then records live data including duration, height, distance and angle. Results show up on screen while riding and are saved in the Flow app so you can look back over them later.

New 12A fast charger

The other big news is the new 12A fast charger. With around 500W of charging power, Bosch says it should charge roughly three times faster than the current setup. A Bosch PowerTube 800 should reach around 50 per cent charge in about an hour.

That speed comes from GaN technology, which manages heat more efficiently while keeping the charger compact at under one kilogram.

For riders doing multiple laps in a day, or anyone wanting a quick top-up between rides, it looks like a very useful upgrade. The catch is that it’s not available just yet — Bosch expects it to land at the end of 2026.
