The three women featured in Josephine Anderson’s documentary short “On Falling” have names: Miranda Miller, Andréane Lanthier Nadeau, and Brittany Phelan.
Between them, two Olympic medals, a world-championship title, and podium after podium among them. But “On Falling” does not centre on these details of their lives, which are mentioned in passing or left out altogether. Anderson was more interested in mapping their “internal landscapes”. Her ruminative film focusses not on these athletes’ biographies, or on their ascents or riding feats, but instead on what most closely connects them to the rest of us: the fact that they, too, fall. Pretty cool to see respected publications spreading their wings to video production of what we know and love, MTB!
