The ultimate e-MTB? // Introducing the Trek Slash+

Trek’s clever R&D team spent years developing and fine tuning the Slash ‘gen 6’ which has since been widely regarded as one of best performing enduro bikes on the planet. They then took the bike, added a tiny lightweight motor and battery to it, and ‘boom’ the Slash+ was born!

The geometry of the Slash+ is literally identical to the regular slash. Both bikes even share the same travel with 170mm at each end, and they’re both feature mullet wheel set-ups. What Trek have managed to do with the Slash+ is pretty genius if you think about it, rather than starting from scratch to create a new e-Bike, simply take an already proven ‘current’ design and slap all the electrical bits on it! And so it’s official, Trek have created a long travel ‘SL’ e-MTB.

We’re excited to see that Trek opted to go with the TQ’s HPR50 motor in the new Slash+. That is the same motor that the brand featured in their stunning Fuel EXe model and we absolutely loved its performance when we trail tested it extensively. The TQ motor is also the only reason Trek have been able to copy the regular Slash’s geo package for the Slash+, given the physical size of the motor is so tiny they were able to incorporate it into the bottom bracket area of the bike without needing to make shift any of the linkages, etc, up or out of the way which they would have otherwise had to do if they opted for any of the other e-MTB motor options out there.

As I mentioned before, the TQ is a very impressive motor. It’s buttery smooth to pedal and it’s extremely quiet. It puts out 50Nm of torque to glide you along and up the trail, which we found to be more than enough ‘zoom’ when we tested the Fuel Exe. The motor is powered by a new, bigger 580Wh battery that bolts securely inside the top tube but can be easily removed with a hex wrench for storage or transport.

Riders looking to crush even bigger days in the saddle can add on an optional Range Extender for an extra 160Wh of power, producing a total combined volume of 740Wh.

Also borrowed from the Fuel EXe is the TQ display screen, as well as the mini handlebar mounted remote which allows the rider to shift between the various power modes. The display has been discreetly blended into the bike’s toptube and features just the right amount of info that you need at a glance. TQ display. The screen and bike settings can be tuned/customized via the Trek Central app

Slash+ can be tweaked for any kind of ride and any kind of rider. The bike’s leverage rate can be changed with the flip of a chip and geometry can be adjusted a degree steeper or slacker without affecting bottom bracket height with optional angle-adjust headset cups (sold separately).  Slash+ also comes with an cleverly designed integrated guide to fully capture the chain, keeping it tight when trails get sketchy. Rugged guards protect the downtube from rock strikes and keep the chain quieter through brake-bump blasted trails. An impact-resistant Carbon Armor laminate under the paint adds extra durability.
