MTBA GRAVITY ENDURO NATIONAL SERIES ROUND 4 IN ROCKHAMPTON, QUEENSLAND, DAY 1

Yesterday saw round 4 of the 2017 MTBA Gravity Enduro National Series get underway at Rockhampton as more than 150 took to the mountain for official practice.

The race will see riders battling it out on 6 trails of the First Turkey Mountain Bike Park. Riders shuttled to the top of Mt Archer for a run down “Dawg” a fast steep arm pumping descent that had a few people wondering why they were there. Stage 2 is the newest of the trails in the park and was only opened a few days ago.

The 1.7km trail drops almost 200m with plenty of tight turns, drop offs and jumps. As the day warmed up to welcome the competitors to sunny Central Queensland the dust and heat was a wake up class to carry plenty of water. with 4 of the 6 stages starting at Turkey Nest riders had to ascend Finley’s multiple times before getting track time on the descents. The rock drop on Lepers Leap unnerved a few during practice and will be a favourite for spectators on race day.

The dry and dusty conditions of most of the trails was hard on riders and equipment. there were a few minor spills and mishaps during practice but overall most riders seemed to enjoy the day. When racing starts on Sunday riders will be greeted with the long ride to the top of Rockhampton’s highest peak that should test everyones fitness.

Be sure to check back in later today for full results and coverage from Sunday’s main event.
