2024 e-MTB Buyers Guide // Ultimate Full Power!

Welcome to our showcase of the very best ‘no compromise’ e-MTB’s on the market in Australia throughout 2024.

We’re talking full power, maximum trail range, the ultimate models from many of our favourite brands. We were spoilt for choice but as you’ll see we narrowed it down and picked some absolutely breath taking new machines to feature in this year’s Buyers Guide.

Please note that most of the bikes featured here are available in a number of different specs/build kits. And another thing that we found interesting to note when we were putting this article together, pretty much all of the bikes that are carry over models from last year have dropped in price by a couple of grand in most cases!? All prices listed in this guide are the full retail price at time of print – no sale prices listed, etc.

GasGas ECC 6

“We predict if there is going to be one brand’s arrive into the Australian e-MTB market this year thats set to make major waves then for sure it’s going to be GasGas. There is so much hype buzzing around right now about the brand, and in particular their ECC range of bikes, and from what we’ve heard from our media partners over in Europe the hype is justified! Visually the GasGas ECC6 certainly looks amazing, and its hard not to get excited about the SRAM PowerTrain motor that its spec’d with. We’ve been told that the first shipment of these bikes is set to land on dealer floors across the country any day now so keep an eye out – we certainly will be!”

Giant Reign E+1

“The most burly offering in Giant’s e-MTB range comes out swinging for 2024, having already proven itself as one of the most capable ‘enduro’ style e-Bikes on the market. This bike has proven itself to ticket all the ‘key’ boxes: tons of suspension travel, adjustable frame geo, a mullet wheel set-up as stock, and an incredibly tough and reliable motor.

Yeti 160E

“It’s wild to think that Yeti spent 6 full years developing the 160e until finally they felt it was perfected and ready for production. Yeti weren’t interested in playing it ‘safe’ with their first e-Bike and making a bike that would suit the widest range of riders, instead the brand set out to design a bike specifically for racing. And as you’ll discover when you read the 160e’s in-depth review inside this very mag, our tester Scott reckons that Yeti have created something pretty damn special, and unique, with this bike!”

SantaCruz Bullit

“The big daddy of SantaCruz’s electrified line-up, the Bullit comes out punching with 170mm of travel at both ends and sh*t loads of engine grunt, this thing is definitely up for attacking the big mountains. A self shuttle DH bike perhaps even sans the triple clamp forks? Call it what you will, we’ll just stick to calling the SantaCruz Bullit ‘sick!’”

Trek Rail

“Few brands feature as many different e-Bike models in their current range as Trek do, and the Rail is the king of the castle when it comes to all out power and travel and trail prowess! The latest generation Rail is an absolute ripper of a bike to ride, we can attest to that ourselves having spent a lot of time on this bike. And beyond its awesome handling it sure is hard to go past the smoothness of that Bosch Performance Line CX motor.”

Specialized Turbo Levo Carbon

“Our staff voted the Levo Carbon as their favourite bike in this buyers guide for a number of reasons, but mostly what it came down to is seemlessly integrated the entire bike feels and ultimately how capable it rides in all areas. Downhill, uphill, long rides, short rides, jumping, cruising, the Levo loves to do it all.”

Pivot Shuttle AM

Our man Scotty reviewed the Shuttle AM recently and one of his standout quotes about it was: “I reckon this bike is an A-grade jack of all trades, from sailing over massive jumps, to pinning sketchy rock sections, railing corners, and gliding up tough climbs, this bike is a pure all rounder in every sense of the word. Sure, it wasn’t as planted on some of the super gnarly rough sections, but I guess it wasn’t designed to be. If you’re all about big gaps and DH runs, then the LT model is probably your jam, but for how capable the AM is over so may facets of MTB this is the bike most riders would love to ride.”

Rocky Instinct Powerplay

“Rocky Mountain’s e-Bikes ride unlike any other brand, in a good way, and the reason being is that Rocky hasn’t gone with an ‘off the shelf’ motor and built a bike around it like everyone else does, instead they teamed up with a local (Canadian) electronics company and created their own motor which is super unique. This approach to developing their e-Bikes also meant that they didn’t have to compromise the bikes geometry when encompassing the motor into the bike, meaning the chainstays on the Rocky’s are still lovely and short and their suspension linkages are identical to their non-e-bikes which is perfect. Oh and one other thing you should know about Rocky’s e-Bikes? They are crazy, crazy powerful! Our team here at the mag have ridden a bunch of Rocky’s and we love ‘em! Definitely reckoned you try one for yourself if you get the chance. ”

Transition Repeater PT

“You had better believe it baby, the ‘PT’ in this model’s name indicates that this bike is going to arrive sporting SRAM’s much anticipated recently unveiled PowerTrain motor system and that is something that should definitely your attention! Here at the mag we’re spent a bunch of trail hours testing the original Transition Repeater and bike proved itself to be an excellent all-round performer, especially on the gnarlier sections of trail, so now that the brand has gone and upped the ante with the performance promise of the new SRAM motor!”

Commencal Meta Power SX Bosch

“Just as we were wrapping this mag up for print a Meta Power SX arrived at our office for testing and what a beast it is in the flesh! The detail and finish quality of this frame is second to none compared to other alloy bikes. We’re also stoked to see this years Meta Power SX offered with the mighty Bosch Performance Line CX motor. And of course being the ‘SX’ model this bike has been intended to really light it up on the more gravity focused trails and we can’t wait to sink our teeth into riding it!”

Husqvarna Mountain Cross MC

“You could probably consider this bike the svelte carbon fibre little brother of the beefy ‘enduro style’ HC5 that you’ll find reviewed inside this mag, and to be honest now that we have spent a bunch of time riding Husky’s big fire breathing machine we know full well that the brand make epic e-Bikes and we can’t wait to experience the slightly more mellow MC6 next time around.”

Intense Tazer ‘Alloy’

“We rode the original ‘carbon’ Tazer when it first came out and we were pleasantly surprised to find it rode quite planted on the trail due to its very active rear linkage system, but because of the mullet wheel as stock the bike was still plenty lively and ready to dance out there on the trails. Not so long ago Intense released this, an alloy version, and given it shares the same geo package and specs we’re guessing this bike is going to be just as lively to rip around on – all be it costing a whole chunk less up front!”

Focus Sam2

“Focus completely overhauled their popular big mountain machine mid way through last year and the new bike now features several notable performance improvements over the previous gen which was a bike that we’d ridden a heap and really loved. Not only does the new Sam2’s frame now look super sweet, but it also boasts the perfect geometry package to tame rough trails and of course it’s got plenty of plush travel as well with 180mm up front and 170mm in the rear. The Sam2 range all come equipped with the latest power units from Bosch meaning you’ll be able to sleep easy at night knowing that you’ve got the best package in the business awaiting you for tomorrows ride!”

SantaCruz Heckler

“Another strong contender for our pick as the e-Bike Of The Year, the Heckler is a bike that our inhouse team have spent a lot of time riding and most of them consider it to have set the bench mark in ride quality and performance for all ‘full powered’ e-Bikes to be rated against. Its brilliant geometry and cleverly design suspension layup make the Heckler incredibly versatile and a ridiculously capable bike to ride across any terrain.”

Cannondale Moterra Neo

“With one of the worlds most talented e-Bike riders (Jérôme Clementz) on hand to play a major role in developing this bike it’s hardly surprising that the Moterra Neo range turned out to be one of the most capable and extremely popular e-Bikes of the past few years. Also, having the best motor system slotted into the bike probably doesn’t hurt either though!”

Sporting a whopping 190mm of travel at each end this bike is quite unique in the market as there are very few other brands with models that match that amount of travel.
